Unicorns?

Yes, unicorns. The unicorn is a symbol of Scotland which is paired with the lion, the symbol of England, both countries ostensibly ‘founders’ of Canada. The broken chain means resistance to oppression. Actual founding country, France, gets a shout-out with a fleur-di-lis, while some shamrocks on the bottom symbolise the ongoing crushing of the Irish. (Heh.) The First Nations, actual occupiers of the land for millennia, are of course denied any recognition at all.
