Ford was taken to task in some quarters for rolling out a redesigned Ford F-150 pickup. Yet even in this slumping, truck-averse market, the F-150 remained America’s best-selling car or truck, as it’s been for 27 years. Calling it quits would make as much sense as Apple pulling the plug on the iPod. (Today’s NY Times)
This is a great example why Apple is flying and auto companies are dying. Apple pulls the plugs on iPods all the time. The iPod Mini was not just the most popular iPod but the number one selling MP3 player in the world. Apple killed it and replaced it with the Nano. The gum pack shuffles sold great - but were improved anyway. Just because it is selling well today is no reason to thing that they will sell just as well 27 years later.Posted on December 31, 2008
